App of the Week – Flipboard

By Sarah Combs:

Mornings used to be spent reading the newspaper over breakfast, and Sunday afternoons were idled away by slowly paging through pointless magazines. It seems odd that these experiences will be foreign to our kids, who are growing up in an increasingly paperless world.

I for one will miss the feel of glossy paper and the smear of newspaper ink on my fingertips. There’s something very unsatisfying about sitting in front of a computer screen, sorting through chaotic and disjointed streams of headlines, photos, tweets, posts, and comments.

Thankfully, the developers of Flipboard have recognized the problem of information overload and lack of organization and have come up with a beautiful solution.

Flipboard presents news in a logical, visual way that is such a contrast from the utilitarian ugliness and linear text of Readers and RSS feeds. Photos are mixed in with headlines and body copy, with the addition of something the web can never seem to make room for: white space.

Flipboard doesn’t attempt to jam in as much information as possible within one page, and it’s fantastically calming to only be given a little bit of text at a time. Add in the satisfying flip animation that accompanies every page turn and Flipboard makes for an experience that comes very close to matching its paper and ink predecessors.

The killer feature of this app, however, is that it integrates with your Twitter and Facebook feeds to create a completely personalized (and always relevant) news experience.  Flipboard creates separate “magazines” out of your different social streams, making for a truly unique type of browsing.

With Flipboard, you see all of the news your friends, family and peers are sharing, alongside the top news stories of the day and articles that you’ve been meaning to read forever. USA Today, Wired, National Geographic, Forbes, Oprah and All Things D are just a few of the publications that are featured within Flipboard, so even if you don’t follow a thousand people on Twitter, you’ll always have interesting new stuff to read.

With this breathtakingly simple app, you'll have time to sit down in the evening and read a few relevant articles or just page through your Facebook posts. Either way, you’ll be blown away by the presentation.

Flipboard is recommended for Teens and Parents (13 and up) for Internet access and adult utility functionality. Find screenshots, reviews and family-friendly ratings for Flipboard and more of the best iPad apps at Famigo.com.

As you may have guessed, it is made of titanium and some stainless steel¡ªthe case is titanium and the rolex replica sale is stainless steel. The dial is brown, the watch hands are silver-toned, and there is a date window at the four o¡¯clock position. The sapphire case protects the breitling replica sale from water damage up to 30 meters. Synergy means cooperative action. This replica watches uk combines the best of the old and the new to deliver something uniquely modern. All of the classic elements are there. It has the sleek and stylish dial of the replica watches uk, the concave dot at the 12 o¡¯clock hour, and the Swiss quartz movement. But the Sapphire Synergy has something few breitling replica sale offer, a rubber wristband. Why rubber? Well, it¡¯s not a sport rolex replica sale, so using it outdoors is out of the question. But the informal band gives it a more casual look and feel, which can be quite appealing to the modern male.
