Taking a stand against bullying
Finding the right family friendly entertainment is rocky when you have a 13-year-old, 9 year and 6-year-old. Our oldest son doesn’t want Disney anymore, but our baby still loves princesses. (Secretly, we do too!) However, because our daughter just told us she was voting for Kelly Kelly of the WWE for the Kids’ Choice Awards, we decided it is time to explore WWE Entertainment to keep the whole gang happy.
For our Sunday night family TV cuddle on April 1st, we plan to order the Pay Per View of WrestleMania with John Cena vs. The Rock as the main event at 6:30pm EST, with others to follow. This is no April Fool’s joke, because we know that Wrestlemania will be the perfect set up for a family discussion on bullying and the many social issues our tweens and teens are facing.
When checking out the WWE’s corporate website, we were amazed to discover the B.A. STAR program, which empowers children to fight back against bullying. B.A. STAR (Show Tolerance And Respect) is a multi-platform, global anti-bullying initiative with 48 alliance partners, including the National Education Association, Health Information Network (NEA HIN), GLAAD, United Federation of Teachers, Scholastic, Inc., and Stomp Out Bullying to name a few. A multitude of celebrities have endorsed the program since its launch.
The mission of be a B.A. STAR is to ensure a positive and equitable social environment for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation. B.A. STAR promotes positive methods of social interaction and encourages people to treat others as equals and with respect, because everyone is a star in their own right. We can all start now by taking the B.A. STAR pledge. Let us know what you think, and please spread the good word that we all should say no to bullying!
