Keep Your Existing Home Phone Number with Home Phone Connect

One of the great benefits of switching to Verizon’s Home Phone Connect service – apart from the big savings – is the ability to transfer your existing home phone number. Nothing is more frustrating and time-consuming than contacting dozens of people to tell them you have a new phone number. If that can be avoided, it makes the whole process of switching services that much more attractive.

Here’s how you do it with Home Phone Connect:

  • First, check whether your existing home number is eligible to be transferred to another provider or “ported” as it’s referred to in the wireless industry. You can do this online or you can call Verizon at 1-800-2-JOIN-IN.
  • Next, choose your Home Phone Connect device and a plan that is right for you. If you are an existing Verizon customer, you can add the Home Phone Connect service to a Share Everything plan for just $20 per month.
  • At checkout, you will be asked whether you want a new phone number or whether you want to transfer a number from another carrier. Choose the second option. You will then be asked to provide information regarding the number you want to port, including the account number for your existing service and your billing information.
  • Review the terms of service, check the “I agree” box and complete the checkout process.

Keep in mind that porting an existing number can take up to 10 business days, depending on whether it’s a wireless or landline and the response time from the existing carrier. During the porting process, DO NOT cancel your existing service, as this could lead to losing the number entirely. Until the process is complete, you will be able to make calls on  your Home Phone Connect but you won’t be able to receive them.

Home Phone Connect is not compatible with fax machines, dial-up Internet and certain other services, so if you have services like these connected to your home phone number, you will need to check with your existing carrier to see how they will be affected.

Home Phone Connect is a great way to save money by eliminating the need for a separate home phone account. If you can save money and keep your existing  number, then the deal just got a little bit sweeter!

I love that you can keep your home phone number. That must have been the biggest pain when we gave up home phone service - telling everyone our new number!
