5 Must-Have Mobile Productivity Apps

There is no doubt that smartphones and tablets have made us more efficient. We can check e-mail, organize our calendars, set alarms, leave ourselves reminders, and do 101 other things, all while going about our normal daily business.

But why settle for more efficient? Smartphones and tablets also give us the opportunity to be more productive. We no longer have to wait until we get back to our desks before we finalize those reports or adjust those spreadsheets. Being out of the office no longer means we have to miss out on important meetings. Smarter mobile operating systems and faster networks mean we have the power to do everything on-the-move.

Here are a few apps to help us get started:

Dropbox

Despite the explosion in online services, Dropbox remains one of the original cloud storage options – and one of the best. Upload photos, documents, videos and more to your own secure Dropbox account and access them from anywhere, including your computer, tablet or smartphone. Everything is automatically synced, so you always have access to the most up-to-date copy.

Files can be easily shared with friends and colleagues from any mobile device, and there is always the security of knowing that all your files are safely stored in the cloud should your smartphone or tablet be lost or stolen.

Platform: iPhone, iPad, Android
Price: Free

GoToMeeting

Set up your own online meeting or attend someone else’s with this easy-to-use, free app from Citrix. The app includes GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar. Participants can share slide presentations, spreadsheets and reports – anything that can be shared on a screen.

No GoToMeeting account is required to attend a meeting: just tap the link in the e-mail invitation and follow the prompts. Up to 6 people can be video-conferenced in using an iPad and HDFaces.

Platform: iPhone, iPad, Android
Price: Free

Pages, Numbers, Keynote

iPad, iPhone and iPod touch owners can work with all their documents, spreadsheets and presentations using these three powerful  business apps from Apple. All files can be edited using the on-screen keyboard and they can also be saved and shared as PDFs or in Microsoft Office-compatible format.

Updated files can be synced to other devices using iTunes File Sharing or iCloud, and everything can be printed to a network printer using Air Print.

Platform: iPhone, iPad
Price: $9.99 each

Quickoffice Pro

No need to feel left out if you are a Microsoft Office fan. Quickoffice Pro lets you create and edit all Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations while on-the-go. The file manager application allows you to store, transfer and share files through Dropbox, Google Docs, Box.net and more.

Tools include the ability to insert tables, pictures and shapes, and quickly format text, numbers and slides. Regarded as one of the Top 10 Must-Have Apps by the New York Times.

Platform: iPhone, iPad, Android
Price: from $14.99

Evernote

With the tag line “Remember Everything”, Evernote turns your phone into the ultimate digital archive by collecting written notes, photos, web pages, and even voice commands, and then making them all available through a simple search. Everything you capture is automatically processed and indexed. You can even add tags or organize notes into different notebooks.

You can search for notes by keywords, titles and tags. You can even search for text inside images. Want to capture contact information from a web site? Just clip the page from your browser and it will store the details. Don’t want to take notes at a meeting? Just take a picture of the whiteboard and it will file all the information.

Platform: iPhone, iPad, Android
Price: Free

You're spot on with Dropbox and Evernote especially. I don't think I could function without Dropbox. Good list.
