The Need for Speed
More entertainment choices demand a faster Internet connection
When it comes to preaching ‘netiquette’ to my teenage daughter I always try to lead by example. That means no ranting on Facebook or Twitter, no gadgets at mealtimes, and no screens in the bedroom. Unfortunately, that last one has become increasingly difficult to enforce, as smartphones and tablets have a way of moving around the house largely undetected.
Perhaps that’s just as well, as I’m no longer much of a role model. While I don’t have a TV in the bedroom, my iPad is becoming a constant companion under the covers. The reason? Faster Internet speeds and the ability to download and stream TV shows, movies and more.
Perhaps nothing confuses the average consumer more than the various claims for faster Internet speeds. If we are told that typical cable speeds are 20/3 Mbps, that isn’t going to mean too much. However, if we are told that downloading a 5GB HD movie will take over 33 minutes, then we can start to get an idea of how fast – or how slow – our Internet service might be.
The movie download speed is what first sold me on FiOS Quantum, the amazing new Internet service from Verizon. At 50/25 Mbps (50 Mbps download/25 Mbps upload) that 5GB HD movie will download in just over 13 minutes. And if that’s not fast enough for you, then Verizon has a range of plans that can bring that download time all the way down to 2.2 minutes.
If you’re not a movie buff but you like listening to music or you upload a lot of photos, then FiOS Quantum reduces download and upload times to just seconds. And don’t worry about having multiple laptops or other devices in the house; Quantum plans are specifically designed with multiple Internet users in mind.
And FiOS Internet service is not just confined to your house. All plans with 15/5 Mbps speeds or better comes with Verizon Wi-Fi service, which gives you access to over 5,000 hotspots locations throughout the U.S., including airports, hotels, restaurants, cafes and more.
If you enjoy watching your TV shows and movies in bed – or anywhere else for that matter – then you will surely understand the need for speed. And if it’s speed you want, then give FiOS Quantum a try. Like over 90 percent of FiOS customers, it’s a decision you won’t regret.
