Getting Ready for Brazil 2014

If you are a soccer fan, then the closing weeks of 2013 have been accompanied by a tantalizing sense of anxiety and anticipation. First, there were the final games of the two-year long qualification process to see which 32 teams made it to the big stage in Brazil next summer. And now comes this week’s World Cup draw, determining which teams will play each other for the right to move on to the knock-out phase. With supporters and sports writers the world over preparing to handicap the teams and nominate the inevitable Grupo de la Muerte, it’s not surprising that the average soccer fan has more on his or her mind than finishing up the Christmas shopping.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is being held in 12 cities throughout Brazil, with the opening match taking place on June 12 in Sao Paulo and the final 31 days later in Rio de Janeiro. An estimated 3.3 million tickets will be available for the 64 matches, the majority being sold through the official FIFA web site.

Of course, if you can’t be there in person, then TV is the next best thing. For U.S. residents, the 2014 World Cup represents a viewing bonanza, with all 64 matches being shown live on ABC, ESPN or ESPN 2. Even the Brazilian time zones work in the U.S. soccer fan’s favor, with all matches kicking off between 12 noon and 6pm ET.

Of course, if you are making plans for a TV soccer marathon, then be sure to switch to Verizon FiOS TV for unrivalled coverage. FiOS has a proud history of carrying the best sports programming and was one of the first U.S. providers to add beIN Sport HD, the exclusive home of the U.S. men’s soccer team away games, as well as a host of other sporting events.

One of the true strengths of FiOS is its multi-cultural programming and the 2014 World Cup is another opportunity to demonstrate the breadth and quality of its channel line-up. The 2014 World Cup is an opportunity for the world to come together and enjoy one of the greatest sporting spectacles on the planet. Whatever our cultural backgrounds, the World Cup will make soccer fans of all of us!

The Online Mom LLC receives a fee for participating in certain promotional programs for Verizon FiOS.
