Tip of the Week How to burn a CD from iTunes

OK you have mastered the download of songs from iTunes and proudly rock out with your iPod everywhere from the supermarket to the gym. But what about the expensive CD player that's gathering dust in the corner of the living room? Or what about those long car journeys with the kids? How do you listen to your favorite songs on devices other than an iPod or your home-based computer?

Luckily, Apple's iTunes software does more than simply play your music. It also has the capability of burning any combination of your songs to blank CDs. So forget about buying an expensive iPod docking station. Burn an old-fashioned CD and bring those forgotten sound systems back to life!

  • The first thing you need to do is create a new playlist for your CD that includes all your favorite songs. In iTunes, go to "File" and select "New Playlist". iTunes will create a box that says "Untitled Playlist" and all you need to do is give it a name.
  • Next, access your music library and drag and drop songs to your new playlist. Keep in mind that most CDs only hold around 80 minutes of music, so don't overload it. As you add to your playlist, iTunes will display the total length on the bottom taskbar.
  • Insert a blank CD-R, and click on the "Burn Disc" button on the right-hand side of the bottom taskbar. iTunes will take a few moments to read the disc and it will then start burning your music. This should take around 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the number of songs you selected.
  • iTunes will notify you when it's finished and your CD is now ready for use!
