Top YouTube Videos of 2009

For the first time since the service launched in 2005, YouTube yesterday published a list of the most-watched videos of the year.

Although predictably headed up by Scottish singing sensation, Susan Boyle, the list also included a couple of great examples of how planned and not-so-planned amateur videos can "go viral" and ultimately entertain millions of people around the world.

Here's a round-up of the Top 5 (in some instances, the total view count was aggregated from multiple versions of the same video):

  1. Susan Boyle – Britain's Got Talent
The unlikely singing star mesmerized the world after she appeared on a British talent show back in April. How popular was the YouTube video? It attracted more 120 million views worldwide, which was more that the next three most-watched videos combined!
  2. David After Dentist
The second-placed video, with more than 37 million views, featured a 7-year-old boy recovering from some dental work that left him feeling disoriented and wondering if he would ever feel normal again.
  3. JK Wedding Entrance Dance
Third place went to a video of an elaborate dance routine executed by bride Jill Peterson and her wedding party just before her marriage to Kevin Heinz back in July. The video, which has logged over 33 million views, made their wedding entrance one of the most talked-about Internet sensations of the year!
  4. New Moon Movie Trailer
The trailer for the movie "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" came in at #4 with 31 million views, helped by a hit book series, massive amounts of publicity, and millions of teenage girls who just couldn't get enough of co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
  5. Evian Roller Babies
The top five was rounded out by another commercial, this time for Evian water. In what would certainly rank at the top of a competition for cutest video of the year, a host of diaper-wearing babies show off their rolling-skating skills to a pounding hip-hop beat. The video attracted over 27 million views.

If Miley Cyrus fans are wondering what happened to their heroine, YouTube explains that they excluded studio-produced music videos from their Top 5 list. In a separate compilation of what is perhaps the site's most popular overall video category, Miley came in strong with videos at both #2 and #3.

The full music video list was:

  1. Pitbull "I Know You Want Me" (82+ million views)
  2. Miley Cyrus "The Climb" (64+ million views)
  3. Miley Cyrus "Party in the U.S.A." (54+ million views)
  4. The Lonely Island "I'm On a Boat" (48+ million views)
  5. Keri Hilson "Knock You Down" (35+ million views)

As you may have guessed, it is made of titanium and some stainless steel¡ªthe case is titanium and the rolex replica sale is stainless steel. The dial is brown, the watch hands are silver-toned, and there is a date window at the four o¡¯clock position. The sapphire case protects the breitling replica sale from water damage up to 30 meters. Synergy means cooperative action. This replica watches uk combines the best of the old and the new to deliver something uniquely modern. All of the classic elements are there. It has the sleek and stylish dial of the replica watches uk, the concave dot at the 12 o¡¯clock hour, and the Swiss quartz movement. But the Sapphire Synergy has something few breitling replica sale offer, a rubber wristband. Why rubber? Well, it¡¯s not a sport rolex replica sale, so using it outdoors is out of the question. But the informal band gives it a more casual look and feel, which can be quite appealing to the modern male.
